Today, after several attempts since being elected, I had a positive response to a Motion requesting a piece of playground equipment for Waterstown Park.
The Motion builds on a positive proposal at the Annual Budget meeting of South Dublin County Council to put money aside for a piece of equipment that could take a wheelchair on board. I have refused to accept that wheelchair users are expected to be lifted onto playground equipment or that they should be satisfied with being able to watch others play.
This move by SDCC should now become standard practice when designing playgrounds. It should be the rule rather than the exception.
